Our founding partner, David B. Lever, recently joined the Morning Wake-Up Call to share his journey as a lawyer and his dedication to helping others both in and out of the courtroom. Known for his advocacy and compassion, David’s story is a testament to the impact of meaningful work and community involvement. Listen to the full interview below.
A Path to Law and Advocacy
When asked what drew him to become an attorney, David reflected on a mix of personal guidance and a growing passion for helping others. “When I was a little kid, my mom used to tell me I should be an attorney because I loved to argue,” he laughed. However, as he grew older, David saw the profession as a way to not only build a successful career but also make a difference in the lives of others. Today, his work focuses on representing individuals who have suffered catastrophic injuries or lost loved ones in accidents.
“No one enjoys coming to us,” David shared candidly. “I wish I could prevent accidents from happening, but since I can’t, my goal is to give every client the best chance for a successful outcome and to guide them through an unfamiliar and often overwhelming process.” His firm’s mission is to level the playing field, empowering clients to focus on healing while his team handles the legal battles.

A Commitment to Community
David’s work extends beyond the courtroom. He has a personal connection to ACLD (Adults and Children with Learning and Developmental Disabilities), a nonprofit dedicated to supporting individuals with special needs. “My younger brother has special needs and has been involved with ACLD for decades,” David explained. “Now he lives in a group home run by the organization. Joining ACLD’s board of directors felt like a way to carry on my family’s tradition of support.”
ACLD serves over 1,400 individuals and employs more than 1,300 people across Nassau and Suffolk Counties. David’s involvement reflects his belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to thrive. “Why shouldn’t my brother, or anyone else, have the chance to live their best life?” he asked. “Providing a forum for people to thrive is a great thing.”
Lessons from Long Island
Growing up in Long Island played a significant role in shaping David’s values and work ethic. “It was a competitive place where I learned the importance of hard work,” he recalled. While he now resides in Westchester County, David’s roots in Long Island remain a core part of his identity, influencing both his personal and professional life.
Fighting for What’s Right
David’s work is driven by a commitment to justice. “If someone is injured due to no fault of their own, they deserve the ability to seek compensation and rebuild their lives,” he said. Whether it’s helping a family recover after a tragic loss or securing the resources a client needs to live with dignity, David approaches each case with empathy and determination.
One case that stands out involved a father who tragically lost his life as a pedestrian on his way home to celebrate his son’s 16th birthday. “We fought for three years and secured a $12 million settlement for his family,” David shared. “While no amount of money can replace their loss, it’s gratifying to know they have the resources to move forward.”
Advice for Aspiring Attorneys
For those considering a career in law, David emphasizes the importance of hard work and active listening. “A lot of lawyers like to talk, but being a good listener is critical,” he advised. “Clients need to feel heard, and that connection makes a real difference.”
Making a Lasting Impact
Whether advocating for clients or contributing to his community, David Lever exemplifies what it means to use one’s profession for the greater good. Through his work, he continues to make a profound difference in the lives of others, embodying a dedication to justice, compassion, and support for those in need.
